Background
The Men Against AIDS Youth Group (MAAYGO) is a non-profit, Community Based Organization with its headquarters in Kisumu. MAAYGO works to protect and promote health-related rights, and is dedicated to improve the health of key population, particularly MSM/ MSM in Kisumu. MAAYGO works with both State and non-State Actors including the civil society organizations to improve the health and well-being of key populations.
MAAYGO has extensive experience implementing community based healthcare, prevention, and treatment in both urban and rural areas, and has years of experience working with the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) and the National AIDS & STIs Control Programme (NACSOP) at both the local and national levels, and in strengthening the capacity of key populations.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Management
• Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements
• Collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting
• Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors, and assess any changes necessary
• Train program staff on budgeting, financial and accounting procedures
• Oversee and lead budgeting and planning processes in conjunction with the finance manager
• Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status

• Manage organizational cash flow, forecasting and compliance and ensure safe custody
of all monies and organization assets
• Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting
system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that
financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
• Update and implement all necessary policies and accounting practices; internal and
external controls compliance for improvement of overall efficiency
• Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the Senior
Management staff.
• Develop the organizational annual implementation plan in partnership with the
Program manager, Project officers and the Director, in line with the strategic plan.
• Participate in the preparation and review of the organization’s strategic plan other
strategic documents and review meetings
• Monitor program implementation through regular contact and field visits and identifying
opportunities and mechanisms for program improvement based on monitoring and evaluation
findings in collaboration with program staff
• Maintain good working relationships with program and management team
• Deputize the finance and Admin manager when need arises, and undertake any other
duties as may be assigned

Human Resources, Technology and Administration
• Further assist in human resources administration, enhancing professional
development, compensation and benefits, training, and recruiting
• Ensure that recruiting processes are consistent and streamlined
• Facilitate Establishment and management of a comprehensive training program to
educate employees regarding staff tools, policies, and procedures
• Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party
vendors and consultants
• Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent
operations as per the organization scales
• Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and
audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has preferably overseen
a human resources function previously
• Ability to translate financial concepts to layman understanding and to effectively
collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily
have finance backgrounds
• Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations;
knowledge of appropriate accounting and reporting software

• Commitment to training programs that maximize individual and organization goals
across the organization including best practices in human resources activities
• Ability to set priorities; have organization and problem solving skills which support
and enable sound decision making
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize,
negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
• A multi-task with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the
organization
• Training on the MARPs Sensitivity
• Able to work with LGBTI/MSM/SW persons

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business
Administration or any other business related discipline from a recognized university.
• At least a professional qualification in Accounting or Finance like CPA, ACCA, or CFA.
• A master’s degree in relevant disciplines such as MBA will be an added advantage.
• At least five years of overall professional experience; ideally two-plus years of broad
financial and operations management experience.
• Atlist 2 years’ Experience working in Global fund and USAID Projects in similar
position
